The 4 week program will focus mainly on the physical aspects of yoga which is the practice of poses and breathing. Mindfulness will naturally be part of both practices and a short meditation will be offered at the end of the physical practice.

Yoga has been extensively studied for it's effects on the brain and these effects and help with injury prevent and performance increase in your pickleball game. Here are some key findings:

Stress Reduction and Anxiety management

  • Cortisol Levels: Regular yoga practice has been shown to reduce cortisol levels, the body's primary stress hormone, leading to lower stress and anxiety.

  • GABA Levels: Yoga increases gamma-aminobutyric (GABA) levels in the brain, a neruotransmitter that helps inhinit neural activity and promote relaxation.

Improved Brain Function and Structure

  • Gray matter Volume: Studies have shown that yoga practitioners have increased gray matter volume in areas of the brain associated with pain tolerance, emotional regulation, and cognitive functions.

  • Hippocampus Size: regular yoga practice can increase the size of the hippocampus, a brain region crucial for learning and memory.

Enhanced Cognitive Performance

  • Attention and Focus: Yoga improves attention and focus by promoting a state of mindfulness, which is the practice of being fully present in the moment.

  • Memory: Mindfulness and meditation practices within yoga can enhance working memory and cognitive flexibility.

Neuroplacticity

  • Brain Connectivity: Yoga enhances neuroplasticity, which is the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural pathways throughout life. This improves overall brain function and resilience.

  • Increased interoception: Studies show that yoga practitioners have increased in activity in interoceptive pathways in the brain, the brain interprets what is going on in the body motivating us to take action.

  • Improved sensory and motor cortex blood flow: The concept of the homunculus, particularly the sensory and motor homunculus, can provide valuable insight into how yoga influences the brain and body.
